Constipation can lead to serious illness

Constipation is a very common health issue in our society. It can be an acute issue or a chronic issue and if it’s a chronic issue, it can lead to serious health problems. Why is constipation so prevalent? What are the main causes of constipation?

The number one cause of constipation is the processed food that most folks are eating. This processed food is not food, it’s food like substances. (FLS) I coined this phrase last year while talking to a friend and expressing my concern and utter shock at all the FLS around us. This processed food is not recognized by the body and it’s void of any good bacteria, enzymes, and vitamins and minerals. The body has a hard time digesting this processed food and this leads to an imbalance in the micro-biome or bacteria in your gut. The bacteria are largely responsible for creating the perfect environment for creating and forming a health bowel movement. When the micro-biome is weakened, constipation sets in.

Other causes of constipation are stress, low stomach acid and taking too many pharmaceutical drugs. Stress can put your body in the sympathetic nervous system and this causes your body and mind to be on high alert for danger and this shuts down the digestive system and revs up your adrenaline, your heart rate and your respiratory system. Sadly, many people are in this sympathetic state most of the time and this hampers the digestive system.

Chronic constipation can lead to immune system problems, auto-immune diseases, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, etc., headaches and migraines, fatigue, brain fog and many other health issues.

The best solutions to end the unhealthy cycle of constipation are to eat real food, reduce stress levels, decrease or eliminate pharmaceutical drugs and to move your body in a way that you enjoy. Best foods to eat: avocados, coconut oil, olives and olive oil, pastured raised meats, eggs, steamed green vegetables, home made vegetable juice, sauerkraut, fruit, but not too much fruit and kombucha tea. Nutritional supplements consisting of probiotics, enzymes, digestive bitters and if needed, HCL with Pepsin will be helpful. Gillette Nutriton offers an amazing Probiotic/Enzyme supplement called B-Pro. Here is the link to B-Pro.

Crohn’s Disease

Digestive health issues are a huge epidemic in our society and one of the of most alarming digestive diseases is Crohn’s disease. Crohn’s disease is growing at a fast rate and unfortunately, modern medicine does not and will not have the answer or cure. Why are many people suffering from Crohn’s disease?

Crohn’s disease is classified as an Irritable Bowel Disease and it is a chronic inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal tract. Crohn’s disease is also classified as an autoimmune disorder where the body attacks itself. It mainly occurs in the last part of the small intestine, called the ileum and the beginning of the large colon. However, Crohn’s disease can occur anywhere along the entire gastrointestinal tract, from the mouth to the anus and it can affect the entire thickness of the bowel wall.

Some of the most common symptoms of Crohn’s disease include the following: persistent diarrhea, rectal bleeding, an urgent need to move bowels, abdominal cramps and pain, a sensation of incomplete evacuation and constipation. Other symptoms can include fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, fatigue, night sweats and a loss of normal menstrual cycles.

The main cause of Crohn’s disease is a poor diet made possible from our modern society with the large processed food companies, fast food restaurants, agricultural chemical products in the form of pesticides and the ever increasing genetical modified organisms (GMOs) in the food supply. All of these modern applications to our food supply wreck havoc on our entire digestive and immune systems by greatly weakening the body’s ability to generate proper levels of stomach acid (hydrochloric acid), the body’s ability to absorb nutrients within the small intestine and the body’s ability to keep the proper balance of bacteria, mainly in the large intestine, but throughout the entire body. When these functions of the body are weakened or destroyed, disease sets in and one of these diseases is Crohn’s disease. Simply put, Crohn’s disease is the inability of the digestive system to digest, absorb and assimilate the nutrients necessary for a healthy body and mind. This sets the stage for the body to start attacking itself because the body sees the undigested food in the blood steam as a foreign invader. Couple the undigested food with the chemicals from food and body care products and the stage for general war against the body is set.

The best way to mitigate or cure Crohn’s disease is a complete lifestyle change, beginning with healthy food. The most healing diet includes the following foods: grass fed beef, pastured chicken, wild fish, pastured eggs, oysters, avocados, coconut oil, olive oil, cod liver oil, bone broth from pastured animals, raw pastured butter, raw cow or goat milk, raw cow or goat yogurt and kefir, homemade vegetable juice, steamed vegetables, raw apple cider vinegar, raw honey and perhaps, some fruit here and there. All of these foods need to be hormone free and organic. Each person with Crohn’s disease will be at a different stage in their dealing with this disease and the above listed foods will vary from person to person. Some folks will be able to eat some fruit and cooked vegetables and some will not. Some folks will be able to digest raw milk and some will not. Some folks will have to eat a completely raw primal diet to ensure the best path to healing. Grains, beans, pasteurized dairy, nuts, seeds, added sweeteners, starches and raw vegetables need to be avoided to ensure the best healing of the digestive system. Avoid all processed foods, fast foods, GMO foods and pesticide laden foods.

Certain supplements will be helpful and these supplements will vary from person to person. These supplements include the following: HCL with pepsin capsules, digestive bitters, digestive enzymes, probiotics, raw cod liver oil, whole foods based vitamin C, whole foods based zinc, other whole foods based vitamins and minerals, adaptogenic herbs, terramin clay and other supplements.

Besides a radical change in diet, other lifestyle changes include the following: using very little body care products and these body care products need to be organic, getting outside as much as possible and soaking up the sunlight, following circadian rhythm, doing some Earthing (putting your bare feet on the Earth), engaging in moving your body, deep breathing, emotional expression and healing, reducing stress levels, spending time with loved ones, and standing up for yourself. Of course, there are other healthy lifestyle changes to incorporate into your life and it will vary from person to person.

Crohn’s disease is a challenging and sometimes, a major life altering disease. If we are going to see any reduction in Crohn’s disease with the hopes of curing it, we start with what we eat and we eat foods that have healing energy and properties; and from there, we start to radical change the way we live on every level of life: physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent Fasting is becoming quite popular these days, and for good reason. What is Intermittent Fasting? For starters, it’s not true fasting, when you abstain from all food and beverages, except water, for a day or two or longer. Intermittent Fasting is when you abstain from all food and beverages, except water, for a period of 16 hours of the 24 hours that make up a day.

It may sound crazy or impossible to do, but when you are able to do it, Intermittent Fasting will do wonders for your body and mind. It will enhance brain power and focus, decrease any inflammation in the body, allow the digestive system to relax and repair and allow the endocrine system to relax and repair. Other benefits will be experienced based on each individual’s lifestyle.

Most folks graze all day long, putting a lot of pressure and burden on the digestive system and on the endocrine system. When these systems are tired, inflammation, digestive upsets and hormonal imbalances will occur.

The best way to ease into Intermittent Fasting is to reduce the amount of carbohydrates you consume and increase the amount of fat and protein, especially fat. This is the only way you will be able to fast for 16 hours as your body and mind will have enough calories from fat and protein to sustain your body and mind. When you eat too many carbohydrates, blood sugar greatly increases and in turn, insulin and cortisol greatly increase causing blood sugar to drop. With this cycle being repeated, you end up eating every 2-3 hours and causing too much work for the digestive and endocrine systems.

For Intermittent Fasting, choose the best 8 hours for you to consume your food for the day. For example: 9am-5pm; 10am-6pm, 11am-7pm or 12-8pm. On your first attempt, if you can’t make the full 16 hours of fasting, it’s okay. Do not force yourself to fast the entire 16 hours if your blood sugar drops. Eat something and attempt it again, another day.

Some folks see huge benefits from Intermittent Fasting and they do it every day. For other folks, 2-3 days a week is perfect. Experiment and discover what the best plan of Intermittent Fasting is for you.

Consciousness

As I reflect on the state of consciousness of this nation, I feel a possible monumental shift in awareness happening. I say possible because if this shift is to happen, you must be ready to take full responsibility for your actions and be completely honest with yourself and with your fellow human beings.

I must confess that I have not always been completely honest with myself and with others, nor did I really know what being responsible was all about.

My, how times have changed and I am forever grateful for my shift in consciousness. Every since I decided to take responsibility for my actions and to be honest, a couple of things have happened. I became more alive, an awakening to beauty and harmony. Though at times I felt fear, the truth has always set me free.

I discovered that I will always be on the journey of higher awareness and consciousness. Although at times, I wish I had not been lead to this new way of living, I simple cannot go back to my old ways. It’s impossible because once my spirit experienced truth, responsibility, and awareness; my spirit would not let me shrink back to the unconscious way of living without knowing.

The last discover I made was that I still feel pain and sadness for all the dishonesty and irresponsibility that occurs every day. It will be awhile before I lose my pain and sadness, awhile before everyone truly awakens to the truth, awhile before a new conscious revolution happens, but I patiently wait with you and all those who feel like I do, walk as I do, and everyday, finds that spark of hope, love, laughter, and gratitude that keeps us living with responsibility and honesty.

Cure for Cancer

Everyone has been touched by cancer, by knowing a relative or friend who had or has cancer or by having cancer, yourself, in the past or currently. Most all of us know someone that has died from cancer. Why is cancer such an epidemic in our society? Will there ever be a cure for cancer? Will modern medicine ever discover the cure for cancer or does the cure for cancer lie within the power of Mother Nature?

From my research and investigation, the War on Cancer from modern medicine is not working and the real cure for cancer lies within the natural world.

The cure for cancer is a combination of several aspects of life, beginning with eating organic and truly healthy food, with a good amount of raw foods, including raw animal protein and raw animal fat. Other natural health aspects to cure cancer include using healthy body care products and cleaning products, following the circadian rhythm of the Sun as best as you can, walking barefoot (Earthing) on natural surfaces, sleeping well as sleeping dictates a healthy or unhealthy immune system, a healthy or unhealthy hormonal system and a healthy or unhealthy bacteria balance, drinking pure and filtered water, avoiding GMO foods, avoiding heavy metals such as mercury, aluminum, fluoride and lead, avoiding negative people and negative thoughts as best as you can, eating with the seasons, moving your body, engaging in some sort of strength training, breathing deeply throughout the day and engaging in a daily meditation and prayer practice.

Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins and minerals are essential for a healthy body and mind. In the modern era, most people are deficient in many vitamins and minerals. Why is this such an epidemic? For starters, the soil in which most of our food is grown is deficient in many minerals; and thus, the food is deficient in many vitamins and minerals. Most of the soil in this country is lacking life and energy. It’s becoming sterile.

Most folks eat processed food and this processed food has no real living nutriton and it’s lacking in natural vitamins and minerals. The synthetic vitamins and minerals added to processed foods are not recognized by the body. I call processed foods, food like substances. (FLS) Add in the use of pharmaceutical drugs and we have an epidemic on our hands of people lacking the healthy amounts of vitamins and minerals needed for good health. Pharmaceutical drugs and over the counter drugs cause a deficiency of many vitamins and minerals. The use of pharmaceutical drugs is way out of balance and its causing more harm than good. Some of the most common nutrients that become deficient from pharmaceutical drugs are: Zinc, Magnesium, B Vitamins, Vitamin C,  Iron, Potassium and Coenzyme Q10.

In order to have the correct levels of vitamins and minerals, the following has to be implemented:

  1. Eat organic fruits and vegetables and organic and pastured raised meats and eggs.
  2. Eat fermented foods: sauerkraut, kombucha tea, kimchee, raw yogurt or raw kefir.
  3. Eat organic organ meats, especially liver.
  4. Eat oysters
  5. Make sure your stomach acid is strong.
  6. If you are vegan or vegetarian, supplement with Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Zinc, Iron, B12 and B6.

Float Deprivation

Do you know what float deprivation means? A float deprivation is a healing experience in which you are deprived of sight and sounds, and you are floating on body temperature water in a tank filled with Epsom salt. It may sound weird, but it is an amazing experience. I have completed three float deprivation experiences at Samana Float in Denver, CO.

We are all over stimulated with sights and sounds on a daily basis. We are on overload and our bodies and minds are feeling the stress of this over stimulated society. Float deprivation helps to put your body and mind at rest and at ease and it allows the parasympathetic nervous system to bring a feeling of well being and relaxation to your body and mind.

For me, float deprivation allows me to think clearer and to tap into my higher self and at the same time, it allows my body to fully relax. I highly recommend float deprivation. If you live in the Denver, CO area, go experience a float at Samana Float.  Put in this code for a discount when booking a float online: Gillette55.

Here is some information from Paul Clift, co-owner of Samana Float.

The remarkable experience in which one floats weightlessly on his or her back in a dense saline solution at body temperature is a wonderful healing protocol. At Samana Float Center you have the choice of floating in either a pod or a cabin—both provide a zero-gravity environment void of external stimuli and full of potential. Samana is home to 4 sound-proof, light-proof tubs, each containing 220 gallons of water and 1100 lbs. of Epsom salt.

Numerous studies over the last 40 years show a wide variety of benefits that come with float deprivation. Physically, the floating has been shown to relieve stress, accelerate recovery from injuries, fight addiction, eliminate chronic pain, and much more. Mental benefits include enhanced concentration and information absorption.

Paul and Heather Clift started floating for their own personal benefits in the spring of 2014. After the first few floats, Paul and Heather decided that they needed to bring floating to everyone they knew. In the fall of 2014, their journey began! After a year of finding the location and getting the business plan together, Paul and Heather moved their family from Breckenridge to Fort Collins and signed the lease at the Larimer location in the RINO district in Denver, CO.

In May 2016, Samana opened her doors, and the reception has been wonderful. Samana offers many different membership types and also has sharable punch cards. Getting people in to float is the main goal for Paul and Heather, and the pricing is very reflective of that. The float is only one aspect of the experience at Samana. The entire space is set up to allow the clients a “2 hour retreat” with everything from the shower and towels before the float to the gourmet candies and tea after the float.

Conversation

Has the ability to spark a true soulful conversation been forgotten by the majority of people who are too caught up with materialism and their own inner world? As a whole, the art of conversation is lost, but for the brave and concerned few, we must revive the art of soulful conversation to the forefront to save our society.

Deep down, everyone longs to express their emotions and their dreams; and everyone, deep down, is a beautiful spiritual being. But how can we revive our ability to engage in soulful conversation? You must instill in yourself a wholehearted interest for your fellow human beings and have the courage to go beyond the norm and ask big questions. Granted, you cannot have a soulful conversation with everyone, but you can begin with good intentions and a willingness to share ideas and see what happens.

With most people you come in contact with, you will have to begin with the usual pleasantries of how are you, what do you do, where do you live, etc. Then you can bring forth the questions of what are you passionate and curious about. Ask the deeper questions like, how do you feel about the state of this country or the world? Are you doing what you want to do? What do you dream about? What are your spiritual beliefs?

Some people may not know what do say because they never hear these questions. So be ready for some possible awkward moments and remember that the biggest gift you can give someone is listening.

The easiest way to test your boldness is to talk to the people you come in contact with every day, such as the local store clerk, cashier or waitperson. Ask an interesting or funny question. Try these and see what happens: Have you had any interesting dreams lately? Do you really like your job or would you rather be doing something else? What’s your favorite color and why? What’s one thing that you want to do that you have not done yet? You may learn something new or make a friend. At the very least, you may just brighten up their day.

Our society has become too mundane and superficial. It’s time to strike out and get people out of their boxes. Life is about mystery, connections and lighting sparks of fire to awaken society and to engage people in compassionate communication and deeper relationships

I leave you with a passage from Goethe’s “The Fairy Tale of the Green Snake and the Beautiful Lily.”

“Where do you come from?” asked the King.

“From the subterranean passages where gold is found,” said the snake.

“What is more precious than gold? Asked the king.

“The light,” answered the snake.

“What is more precious than light?” asked the king.

“Conversation,” said the snake.

Digestive Bitters

One of the most important health protocols you can do for yourself is to consume digestive bitters on a regular basis.  You may be wondering, what the heck are digestive bitters? Digestive bitters are herbs that are consumed as a tea or as a liquid tincture before eating a meal. These herbs are very bitter. Their bitterness when tasted, stimulates the body to get ready for the coming meal. When a bitter substance is recognized by bitter receptors on the tongue, a chain of neural and endocrine events begins, labeled as the “bitter reflex.” Mediated by the release of the gastric hormone gastrin, this reflex results in an overall stimulation of digestive function, which over time strengthens the structure and function of all digestive organs (liver, stomach, gallbladder, pancreas, etc.). These digestive bitters stimulate the gastric juices or as I like to say, the gastric fire, to be prepared to break down the impending meal. The main gastric juice involved in this process is hydrochloric acid which is released by the parietal cells in the stomach, which is regulated by gastrin, a hormone, which is secreted by the G cells.

The job of the stomach is to break down the food that is consumed, mainly the protein, into a chyme ball or acidic soup so that the protein and to a certain extent, the fat and carbohydrates, will be able to be absorbed, assimilated and utilized by the small intestine and large intestine through a complex and elaborate system that involves the pancreas, liver and gallbladder and many enzymes and trillions of bacteria.

If stomach acid (hydrochloric acid) is not strong enough then all the other mechanisms and duties performed by the pancreas, liver, small intestine, etc., will be diminished and many problems, minor and major, can arise, with the main problem being malnourishment.

Millions of people suffer from low stomach acid and the results are: indigestion, constipation, heart burn, gas, burping, acid reflux and a host of other problems. Besides a big change if diet, digestive bitters will be a huge help. The best way to take digestive bitters is in the tincture form. Take 40-60 drops of the tincture in a little glass of water or hold a little bit of water in your mouth and squirt the drops into your mouth and swallow. Do this 10-15 minutes before the meal and do this before every meal.

The following is a list of some of the various digestive bitters: Angelica, Dandelion, Goldenseal, Horehound, Wormwood, Peppermint, Orange Peel, Yellow Dock, Fennel, Ginger, Cardamom and Gentian.

Digestive bitters were a big part of many cultures and are still a big part in cultures around the world. It’s time to bring this health remedy back to our culture.

My favorite digestive bitters are from the following herbal companies: Gaia Herbs, Herb Pharm, and Urban Moonshine.

Oysters for Health!

One of the most nutritious and powerful foods are oysters. Oysters for health! Growing up near the coast in Virginia, I ate a lot of seafood, including oysters from the Chesapeake Bay. Back then, I had no idea how heathy oysters were. I do now.

Oysters are known as an aphrodisiac in some cultures. Perhaps it’s the shape and texture that make them an aphrodisiac, but the real reason is the powerful nutritional value of oysters. Oysters are packed with healthy protein and fat, both of which are needed for hormonal and neurotransmitter production and assimilation. Oysters for health! Oysters contain the most zinc of any food and zinc is the most important mineral for the immune system. White blood cells need zinc to be produced and to work properly. Zinc is needed for a healthy prostate and many men need a boost in their prostate health. Zinc is also needed for healthy muscles and healthy bones. Besides zinc, oysters contain the following nutrients: vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, copper, manganese, and selenium. Oysters also contain high levels of niacin, riboflavin, thiamin, vitamin C, phosphorus, potassium, and sodium. Finally, oysters are a huge source of beneficial cholesterol, antioxidants, omega-3 fatty acids and water. Oysters even contain a small amount of vitamin A and vitamin B6. Oysters for health!

Another awesome benefit of zinc is its ability to keep testosterone levels at healthy levels. Men have much more testosterone than women, but women need that small amount of testosterone at healthy levels or women will see a decrease in muscle tone, energy and libido. Oysters for health!

The best way to obtain all the nutrition from oysters is to eat them raw, like I do. Squeeze some lime or lemon juice on the oysters and add some good cocktail sauce, preferably organic and homemade. If raw is not your style, roast, sauté, bake or grill the oysters. You will still obtain a huge benefit from the oysters if they are cooked.

One last note of the benefit of oysters is their ability to absorb toxins and to assist in ushering the toxins out of your body. Your liver, which does most of your body’s detoxing through its phase 1 and phase 2 detoxification pathways, will love it if you start consuming some oysters. Oysters for health!

Here is some more fantastic information about oysters from the Weston A. Price foundation. Oysters
