Constipation can lead to serious illness

Constipation is a very common health issue in our society. It can be an acute issue or a chronic issue and if it’s a chronic issue, it can lead to serious health problems. Why is constipation so prevalent? What are the main causes of constipation?

The number one cause of constipation is the processed food that most folks are eating. This processed food is not food, it’s food like substances. (FLS) I coined this phrase last year while talking to a friend and expressing my concern and utter shock at all the FLS around us. This processed food is not recognized by the body and it’s void of any good bacteria, enzymes, and vitamins and minerals. The body has a hard time digesting this processed food and this leads to an imbalance in the micro-biome or bacteria in your gut. The bacteria are largely responsible for creating the perfect environment for creating and forming a health bowel movement. When the micro-biome is weakened, constipation sets in.

Other causes of constipation are stress, low stomach acid and taking too many pharmaceutical drugs. Stress can put your body in the sympathetic nervous system and this causes your body and mind to be on high alert for danger and this shuts down the digestive system and revs up your adrenaline, your heart rate and your respiratory system. Sadly, many people are in this sympathetic state most of the time and this hampers the digestive system.

Chronic constipation can lead to immune system problems, auto-immune diseases, such as lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, etc., headaches and migraines, fatigue, brain fog and many other health issues.

The best solutions to end the unhealthy cycle of constipation are to eat real food, reduce stress levels, decrease or eliminate pharmaceutical drugs and to move your body in a way that you enjoy. Best foods to eat: avocados, coconut oil, olives and olive oil, pastured raised meats, eggs, steamed green vegetables, home made vegetable juice, sauerkraut, fruit, but not too much fruit and kombucha tea. Nutritional supplements consisting of probiotics, enzymes, digestive bitters and if needed, HCL with Pepsin will be helpful. Gillette Nutriton offers an amazing Probiotic/Enzyme supplement called B-Pro. Here is the link to B-Pro.

Vitamins and Minerals

Vitamins and minerals are essential for a healthy body and mind. In the modern era, most people are deficient in many vitamins and minerals. Why is this such an epidemic? For starters, the soil in which most of our food is grown is deficient in many minerals; and thus, the food is deficient in many vitamins and minerals. Most of the soil in this country is lacking life and energy. It’s becoming sterile.

Most folks eat processed food and this processed food has no real living nutriton and it’s lacking in natural vitamins and minerals. The synthetic vitamins and minerals added to processed foods are not recognized by the body. I call processed foods, food like substances. (FLS) Add in the use of pharmaceutical drugs and we have an epidemic on our hands of people lacking the healthy amounts of vitamins and minerals needed for good health. Pharmaceutical drugs and over the counter drugs cause a deficiency of many vitamins and minerals. The use of pharmaceutical drugs is way out of balance and its causing more harm than good. Some of the most common nutrients that become deficient from pharmaceutical drugs are: Zinc, Magnesium, B Vitamins, Vitamin C,  Iron, Potassium and Coenzyme Q10.

In order to have the correct levels of vitamins and minerals, the following has to be implemented:

  1. Eat organic fruits and vegetables and organic and pastured raised meats and eggs.
  2. Eat fermented foods: sauerkraut, kombucha tea, kimchee, raw yogurt or raw kefir.
  3. Eat organic organ meats, especially liver.
  4. Eat oysters
  5. Make sure your stomach acid is strong.
  6. If you are vegan or vegetarian, supplement with Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Zinc, Iron, B12 and B6.

Health Food Stores are not all that Healthy!

I shop at health food stores and I use to think everything in the health food stores was actually healthy. I had the wool pulled over my eyes. Fortunately, I removed the wool and I now know exactly how to shop at the health foods stores for truly healthy food, while avoiding all the unhealthy food. Most health food stores will not carry any products containing artificial sweeteners, colors or flavorings and products with hydrogenated oils. This is a good thing and for many folks, it’s a good starting point.

However, there is way more to health than just avoiding artificial foods and hydrogenated oils; and sadly, most folks do not realize this and they still struggle with their health while shopping at health food stores. Unfortunately, health food stores do not educate their customers enough and the health food stores continue to carry sugar laden drinks and grocery items that cause severe damage to the health of their customers.

I estimate that 65% of the food in health food stores are unhealthy and are directly contributing to the unhealthy epidemic that is plaguing our society. Most of the grocery items are simply too full of sugar and are highly processed. A few items that come to mind are: boxed cereal, potato chips, sugar sweetened sodas, canned soup, any flour that is not refrigerated and the majority of cookies, pretzels, sports drinks and nutrition bars. Start reading the label of these items and you’ll see the amount of carbohydrates, which is sugar to your body. The main reason people are ill is the over consumption of carbohydrates.

The other products that are truly unhealthy are the dairy products. Dairy is healthy when it is raw and that is a fact. Some states allow raw dairy in the grocery stores, but most do not. The simple fact is that pasteurized dairy, even if it is organic and grass fed, is not healthy and can cause a host of problems; plus, it’s a waste of money buying pasteurized dairy as most of the nutrition has been denatured due to the pasteurization.

Shop the perimeter of the health food stores and buy vegetables, fruits, eggs, grass fed or wild meats, bulk items such as nuts, seeds, beans and grains; but, do not eat too many beans and grains as these foods are full of starchy carbohydrates. In the interior of the store you will find a few items worthy of eating, such as olive oil, coconut oil, nut and seed butters and a few low sugar sweet treats and a few low sugar nutrition bars that are free of soy, refined sugar and dairy. In the cooler and freezer, you can find some healthy drinks like kombucha tea, my favorite being High Country Kombucha and some real low sugar drinks and healthy items like miso and sauerkraut.

Shopping a health food store takes some knowledge if you want to achieve awesome and amazing health. It can be done. Shopping for healthy items in a typical grocery store; well, that’s another story.

Perhaps in the future, enough people will eat really healthy and the unhealthy items in the heath food stores will no longer be bought; and thus, the health food stores will have a major upgrade and the name, “Health Food Store” will actually mean what it says.

Kombucha Tea

Speaking of refined sugar, popular “sweet tea” does not conjure up feelings of health and healing, unless we are talking about Kombucha Tea, the big wave of health that is in every health food store across the nation. Is Kombucha just another fad, or a real health elixir?

Kombucha is the real deal and a healthy and tasty drink that provides energy, many vitamins and minerals, good bacteria and enzymes for digestive health and organic acids, one of which is Glucuronic acid that aids the liver in the detoxification process. Kombucha Tea is a biological active product fermented with a living culture to become a natural living food high in enzymes. The fermentation process of Kombucha leaves it naturally sparkling and virtually sugar free.

Being in Colorado, I took the opportunity to visit High Country Kombucha, in Eagle, to see their operations and how they make the kombucha tea and all the different varieties, like Aloe, Chai Spice, Wild Root, Passion Flower, Ginger, etc.. The origins of kombucha tea is thought to have started in the Far East, as far back as two thousands years. The first recorded use was in China in 221 BC during the Tsin Dynasty.

If you want to save some money and not add more glass bottles to the waste stream, you can make your own Kombucha at home. Use organic refined (but not bleached) sugar and organic black tea, bags or loose. You are adding anti-oxidants to the process through the use of healthy green, black or white tea leaves. The kombucha culture looks like a beige or white rubbery pancake and it is often called a scoby which stands for symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeasts. The culture feeds on the sugar and black tea to create all its healthy benefits. The process is simple and you will have your kombucha to drink in 7-15 days. Visit kombuchacultures.com or organic-kombucha.com to read and see the step by step directions and/or order your kombucha culture. High Country Kombucha is the best commercially made kombucha on the market and it’s available in various health food stores across the country. www.hckombu.com
